The second 2008 Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS) Regional Meetings were held on of the 28th and 30th of October at Deloraine and Hobart.
The meetings again included all ACLS staff from Branch Libraries, Adult Education and Tasmanian Communities Online. Attended by some 140 staff it provided an excellent occasion for staff from all areas to get to collaborate, consult and network about service delivery within ACLS. An important part of the meeting involved participants having the opportunity to make a direct contribution in how to maximise the services that the proposed LINCs will provide throughout the State.
The meetings also enabled ACLS staff to be updated on developments regarding the Literacy programs, the establishment of several Learning Information Network Centres (LINCs), Symphony the integrated library system and the Chloe (ACLS enrolment ) project and Chloe enrolment.
Other highlights included information sessions on the Reading Together Program, eLearn and integrated training in Online Access Centres (OACs) and the Community Knowledge Network Summer Program which will combine courses from Adult Education, OACs and Branch Libraries. Following those were three informative sessions concerning developments within ACLS Business Units - Branch Libraries, Adult Education and Tasmanian Communities Online staff.
The meetings also provided an opportunity for the Acting Manager, John Tucker, to update ACLS staff about developments in the Community Knowledge Network and within the Adult and Community Learning Services area.
The day concluded with a very interesting and thought provoking talk prepared by Ted Field (Senior Librarian Devonport Library) on What does Climate Change mean for Tasmanians and our clients what information and services that can we provide to our clients.
Feedback from the meetings has been positive with the next round of Regional Meetings scheduled for April 2009.
