The GTOAC is a level 5 OAC and was officially opened on July 10th, 1998. We are located in the Eastern Side of the George Town Memorial Hall, opposite the George Town State Library, in MacQuarie Street, George Town.

The GTOAC provides 5 Public Access computers with internet, printer, usb, cd-rom, dvd, scanning, webcam, floppy disk and card reading technology. We also have a main terminal that is used by on duty staff for administration purposes. We also have 6 Laptop computers which have Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 on board for training purposes.

The Management Committee have, in the last year, replaced all the older monitors with new flatscreen monitors. There has been much positive feedback from our patrons on the new monitors. Also, we have had new computers installed in early 2008.

The GTOAC offers all its users full access to all hardware and software installed on our 5 public access machines. We offer training as requested and also run Introduction courses and TAFE courses such as Elearn and Cert II I.T. We also offer assistance with Word Processing, such as doing posters, adverts, invitations and business cards, etc. Most of our staff are also able to provide assistance to people building web-sites or to give people the opportunity to put their information onto a website, such as the local Historical Society maintaining the Community History section of our GTOAC Website.

The GTOAC also offers additional services such as:
* Laminating Services
* Fax Machine
* Scanning facilities
* Photocopying facilities
* Web-Camera, Digital Camera, Hire & Tuition.
* PPS & DVD burning of photos for tourists and locals
* Resume Building & Job Search assistance
* Participation in Government & Local Council initiatives
* Late Open Hours, bookings only, to cater for the 100's of shift workers in our Community.
* Commissioner for Declarations

We have an excellent reputation within our community for our Computers for Beginners program. This course is designed for those patrons who might not have ever touched a computer before. Our efficient Volunteer staff will work 1:1 with a patron for as long as that patron feels they need to continue lessons. The beginning of the course is as simple as getting the person to play solitaire. This gets the hand eye coordination in practice using the mouse before getting onto bigger projects. Some of the patrons who utilized this course became Volunteer Staff with us and have now moved on to bigger and better equipment then they ever dreamed they could operate. It is very rewarding to see these students move on throughout the year and all the staff involved at the GTOAC enjoy tutoring this course. Most patrons who finish Computers for Beginners, move on to Elearn next. Elearn is well received in our community by those who undertake the course.

We also offer courses such as: Cert II Information Technology (currently our Volunteer Staff are working their way through this course), Word Processing, PowerPoint use, Digital Photography, eBay, Online banking/BPay, Hotmail/Email accounts and How to use sites such as Google and surfing the Web.

The GTOAC are taking part in the current trial organized by the CSU for assisting Job Seekers. We are enjoying the experience and have no complaints about the free access initiative. We have always offered free access for Job Seekers, when they are Job Searching, and assisted with Internet based job hunting, application letters, word processing of selection criteria and resume building. George Town has always had a large number of unemployed people within the community, and we are proud to be a part of, and fully support, the Free Access for Low Income Earners initiative.
