Some History Notes on the Deloraine Bowls Club - Tasmania
Although there are indications that the Club has been formed for a number of years prior to 1946, the first recorded meeting for the Deloraine Bowls Club was held on 29 October 1946 at the H.G. Williams shop on Emu Bay Road. This shop has more recently been used as a Backpackers Inn. Those in attendance were Vice President H.G. Williams, G. deGersey, J. deBomford, C. Greene, C. Hall, N.Skirving, R.V. Wyatt and the Hon Sec W.G. Webb. During this meeting is was proposed and moved that additional land be purchased for extension of the green area. This land was to be purchased from A. Calder for the sum of "Forty Pounds".

During a meeting held 24 February 1947, the President R.V. Wyatt welcomed the ladies present and thanked them for being prepared to form a Ladies Committee to help with the social arrangements.

The First Deloraine Bowls Club "Jack High Ball" was held during 1947 at a cost of 12/- ($1.20), 8/- (.80c) and 5/- (.50c) per head.

During October 1947, an ART UNION was conducted and won by M. Neale of Deloraine, the prize being a "box of chocolates". A Building Committee was formed during 1948 for the purpose of accruing funds for the construction of a new club house. During August 1949 the Committee moved that a Refreshment Booth be provided, providing the booth was closed at 6 pm. Note the terminology "Refreshment Booth" not BAR. The closing time for all liquor serving outlets (Pubs) was 6 pm.
