In 1975 a small committee was formed to investigate providing
accommodation for the older members of the community.
The Minister of Education was approached regarding the use of the
unused houses in the district under their ownership. The Minister kindly
donated two house situated on the Murchison Hwy.
With the kind assistance of the Wynyard Council, Pearl Court was
constructed to provide access to the rear of the house blocks to allow expansion of the homes.
The further acquisition of two acres at the end of Pearl Court provided the committee with area to expand.
In 1979, with government assistance, two one-bedroom units were
constructed.
In 1991 a further two units were constructed and in 1997 a modern two
bedroom unit was added.
The units have been owned and operated by the community with full occupancy since inception.
The committee consists of thirteen members drawn from the local
community.
