Emergency Service / Public Safety / Cam / Somerset Neighbourhood Watch

http://www.police.tas.gov.au
As with any project, success & results are directly proportional to input and enthusiasm. In a democratic society where a home is still regarded as a person's castle, mutual co-operation between neighbours remains a necessity.

Given commitment, Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) will work to the maximum benefit of all. There is no such thing as an acceptable crime rate. A reduction in the crime rate may, and has, resulted from mutual community effort. Founder of the London Metropolitan Police Service, Sir Robert Peel sums up our sentiments about the value of NHW by stating; “Police are the public and the public are the police: the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen, in the interests of community welfare and existence”.
Sir Robert Peel (1829)

NHW is one of the most proven and successful community based crime prevention programs currently operating in western countries throughout the world. Cam / Somerset NHW aims to improve the quality of life in a neighbourhood by eliminating preventable crime and promoting closer community ties through the following objectives:

(1) Minimising the incidence of preventable crime, especially burglary, theft and vandalism in the NHW area,
(2) Increasing the incidence and quality of reporting of crime and suspicious activity within the NHW area,
(3) Improving the degree of personal and household security in the NHW area through an education program and "Operation Identification",
(4) Reducing the fear of crime in the NHW area,
(5) Deterring criminal activity in the NHW area by increasing the probablity of apprehension,
(6) Ensuring effective maintenance of the program by planning, monitoring and evaluation.
