The Roman historian Tacitus mentions Caledonians dancing around their swords when the legions invaded Scotland in 54BC. The Scots and their friends still dance today. Although traditionally danced by soldiers the dances were modified as French customs influenced the Scottish Court.
Now there are groups all over the world practising the old dances and writing new ones. There are stately and elegant strathspeys, lively jigs and reels, all danced in sets of two or more couples. Come and try it!
You don't need to bring a partner, everyone is welcome.
