A member of the Federation of Tasmanian Bushwalking Clubs, the Deloraine Walking Club was founded in 1972, with a group of 45 members who elected Mr Charles Crowden as the inaugural President. There are now approx. 150 members.
Members participate in walks which are graded by duration and difficulty and are varied to suit all levels of fitness and interests.
These include autumn walks such as the Fagus walk at Cradle Mountain and the Waratah walk to the Western Tiers and during winter months, excursions taking in waterfalls.
Walks are held every Saturday with the occasional Sunday, and some members participate in bicycle rides and in the winter months take part in cross-country skiing activities. Members are able to learn navigational skills.
Members join for for friendship, camaraderie, social and recreational reasons and the current membership includes all age groups.
The Deloraine Walking Club Inc. also holds social evenings, including gourmet nights (with a dress theme) trivia nights, Christmas Dinners in winter, barbecues and an Annual Dinner.
Joining fees are $25 for single members, $47 for couples and $50 for families. A small fee is charged for introductory walks. This fee is deducted from the annual fee, if the guest elects to join.
Membership Officer for contact is Wendy Viney on 63 430714.
