The Northern Agricultural Society was formed in 1856 and the "FIRST EXHIBITION WAS HELD ON THE YARDS ATTACHED TO THE BLENHUIM HOTEL, LONGFORD ON WEDNESDAY THE 4TH DAY OF NOVEMBER 1857."
The Show has seen many changes since then, but is still going strong after 153 years, and we hope will continue to do so for many more.
The Longford Show prides itself on being a family show, and is considered one of the best one day shows in Tasmania. The attendance over the past few years has been approximately 10,000 thousand people.
It has very well patronised equestrian events, which include show jumping events, which are held on Show Day and there is a Show Horse Festival held on the last Saturday in September for the other events.
There is a poultry show and a dog show, chopping and tree felling, sheep and fleeces, animal nursery , plus all the usual show attractions and all the side show alley rides and games etc. There is a Show Girl/Boy Competition, which always draws a large crowd.
The Home Industries and School sections are always very popular, and there is always a great display of art work etc. from the local schools, as well as the adult art and craft, cooking etc.
The Longford Show is always very popular with commercial exhibitors, and any trade exhibitors are welcome to contract the Secretary for further information
The gate entry fee for 2009 is – Adults $10.00, Children $5.00 and a family (2 adults & 2 children) is $25.00
