Ravenswood Community Garden has been delivering successful programs for over ten years and has been a vehicle for:
Community development, connection and capacity building of the local community.
Life long learning, Essential Learnings and Community based enterprise for all garden users.
Supported training, mentoring and employability skills that validates users life experiences and encourages undertaking new challenges.
Success is achievable for all and is unique in context for all of us. The Garden recognizes and values this and works with all users to validate and reframe their picture of success.
Each program within the Garden has their own hallmarks.
Working Away a nationally recognised community and education partnerships, working with grades 4 8 for individual students and school groups.
Work for the Dole focused on local unemployed, offering training in Horticulture and employability skills in a non-threatening environment.
Community enterprise in produce sales, cottage plants and garden wares.
Our strength lies not in individual programs but how they meld to support each other. These programs sow the seeds for social change, an important but often un-heralded outcome that takes time to occur.
The success of the garden relies on the continued growth and success of our students, volunteers and participants.
Ravenswood Community Garden holds many events throughout the year, to celebrate the garden, community and life. Some of these events are:
Scarecrow Day
Annual Tree Planting
Winter Arts Projects
Farmers Markets
The Garden is actively involved in and supports:
Seed Savers Network
Tasmanian Community Garden Network
Tasmanian Organic Producers
Australian Community Garden and City Farms National Network
