The aims of the Community Shed are for participants to learn new skills and share skills, increase social interaction, help bridge the generation gap and to link people with their community.
Participants form a positive and supportive environment and are encouraged to participate in projects that benefit the community, so come and join us.
The Community Shed is a non judgemental environment, you don't need any experience just a desire and willingness to learn a new skill such as wood turning or building items from timber, or perhaps you can help others.
The Shed helps people make the transition from employment to retirement, and can also help people gain skills who are unemployed, on the Work For the Dole program, Mutual Obligation or who may have a few hours a week that they would like to volunteer to help others.
Most people like to help out others in the community, and the Shed has donated a large array of items and labour to the local community. If you have any timber you might be able to donate, it would be most appreciated, but not essential.
You can work on individual projects, or on group community projects. All donations from the sale of items fund the Community Shed and Neighbourhood House. Alternatively, you might have a particular item or project you would like hand made or crafted by the Shed members, just pop in with your order. You can also drop in any time that the Shed is open for a coffee or tea by the warm fire, and share in many of the tall stories that abound.
Congratulations to long time members Gifford Gadsby, Bill Cain and Paul Wilson for their nominations for the Outstanding Individual Volunteer, during the Australia day Awards on January 26th. Also, congratulations to all involved at The Shed, which received the Health Initiative Award from Break O'Day Council and Break O'Day Health Resource Association. On 15th of February the Shed members will take part in a research study from Ballarat University on site, so again well done everyone in making the Shed the success that it is today!
We are hoping to apply for funding in the near future to extend the size of the existing shed, to house more volunteers, machinery and timber.
