Community Development / Break O'Day Community Enterprise Group

The Break O'Day Community Enterprise Group is comprised of unemployed members of the municipality, and with the assistance of local businesses, TasCOSS, Break O'Day Council and the Business Enterprise Centre, is to act as an umbrella organisation under which small enterprises can operate.
Our current project is the acquisition, restoration and preservation of the Heritage listed Fingal Railway Station building. This can provide a focus for the community's unemployed and underemployed people to create jobs - initially with the building works required, then with the eventual staffing of the Centre in its capacity as a Tourism Information and Promotion Centre, an Historical Interpretation Centre and small retail outlet for local produce and crafts.
Also underway is a Community Garden which is being set up in St Marys and will be used not only to grow produce but to provide an education tool for people interested in agronomy.
