Environment / Allens Rivulet/Sandfly Landcare Group

http://www.landcareaustralia.com.au/
In 2003, there has been three weed-buster days and a well- attended meeting at the Sandfly Hall ably chaired by Deon Scanlon. Barry Hardwick, Bushcare Officer at Kingborough Council has been instrumental in providing technical support, information brochures, the landcare trailer and refreshments at all venues.

Andrew Crane (DPIWE) was also in attendance and will hopefully provide ongoing support and information on weed species in the local area. Andy from Greening Australia was also a valuable contributor to the meeting.

It is hoped that to cover such a large area with a variety of different problems in each site, to have several smaller groups meeting each month to deal with specific issues. There would also be a parent group helping to co-ordinate funding, communications, technical support, tools, equipment, task planning, identification and any other factors requiring support.

Residents at the meeting covered a wide area from Lower Longley, Cooks Rivulet, Pelverata, Allens Rivulet and Sandfly. An interim steering committee of interested people will meet next month to start formulating an action plan. The North West Bay River Catchment Committee Management Plan will from the basis for this. The Peter Murrell Reserve Weed Management Strategy Plan and Rehabilitation Plan will also be used as source of information.
