The Group's strategic direction is guided by a number of principles:
* Community driven, owned & independent to represent the community's views & needs.
* Remain relevent to NRM issues & needs of the King Island Community.
* To be pro-active & long term big picture oriented.
* To seek to intergrate & optimise outcomes economically, enviromentally, socially & culturally.
*To be innovative, open minded & informed using the best knowledge & techniques from local & other sources.
*It is not in the interests of the group to take on policing & enforcement functions of any regulatory system.
*In doing so the group recognises that:
NRM is a partnership between community, government & other stakeholders.
NRM effects everyone in the community (including non landholders) & they all need an opportunity to have a say.
The role of private landholders is critical & they need support.
NRM is a collaborative, cooerative & participative process.
NRM is a long term process for community involvement.
Continually building the capacity of the local community is critical.
KINRMG's role is;
*to facilitate implementation of regional NRM plan
*support & encourage on ground implementation of plans
*provide information & extension support
*attract investment in NRM on King Island
*represent the King Island Community & landholders to Gov & stakeholders
