Wilmot Township
The township of Wilmot is very rich in pioneer culture of which we will endeavour to enlighten you with.
The site initially set aside to build the township, was in the general area of the present day cemetery. The original suggestion on the siting of the township near the cemetery came to nothing. The proposed area did not appeal to T.J. Clerke, and he urged the town to built on its present site. Wilmot was proclaimed on December 12, 1903 in its present location.
The first Wilmot Butter Factory was built in 1904 on the old Sheffield Road, it's first director was a Mr Martin Maddern. This building was destroyed by fire in 1912.
