Community Overview

If the Huon Valley is the corridor to Tasmania's South, then Huonville is most certainly the Gateway.

HEART OF THE HUON
Greater Huonville is located south of Hobart, about a forty minute drive, and has a population of some 12,500, with all of the services one would expect in a thriving rural township.

Surrounding areas include Ranelagh, Judbury, Cradoc and Cygnet, where the river cuts through the countryside to provide one of Tasmanias favorite environments.

Local industry is basically rural with apple and fruit orchards being famous world wide... farming and grazing provide most of the employment in the valley.

Secondary industries include aquaculture, tourism, wine making and service industries which cater to tourists from interstate and overseas, as well as local Tasmanians keen to make the most of their State's treasures.

The Huon river, one of the longest ones in Tasmania, provide opportunities for fishing, boating and white water rafting.

With some of Tasmanias favorite holiday destinations featured along the way, the Huon Valley is well worth visiting. Try the Wooden Boat Building School, the Hastings Caves, Tahune Forest Airwalk - and don't forget to drop in at the Huonville Online Access Centre to email the world where you are!
