Placement and Support Service (PASS)
(Information for Service Providers)
The Placement and Support Service (PASS) is a program within Anglicare Southern Youth Services. PASS works with young people, both male and female, aged 13-16 who are in need of a safe and supportive place to live. The Placement and Support Service primarily offers Community Placements which are short to long term placements with carers within their own homes. PASS can also provide support to young people at the Youthcare Shelter or young people who are living in other forms of accommodation.
The Placement and Support Service consists of a Placement Provider Worker who works primarily with carers to ensue that there are a variety of options for young people in the form of Community Placements. The role of the Placement Provider Worker is to recruit; train and support carers and they work closely with the Youth Workers in the PASS Program. A Community Placement can be a short, medium or long-term option which is negotiated with the young person and the carer with support from the PASS workers. When a young person enters a Community Placement they receive intensive support and case management from a PASS youth worker. There are currently two youth workers who provide case management and support to young people in community placements in other forms of accommodation.
They can also work with young people to help them identify and work towards achieving goals and developing independence. The workers are able to continue working with young people if they have found other accommodation or if they have returned home. The service also aims to work with families where appropriate and will often engage other services to assist in the process of family reconciliation. The PASS workers also work with young men at Youthcare who are aged 13-16 and provide a range of additional support including identifying other accommodation options that are available to these young people. The workers will also work with schools and other services whom the young person is involved with. The Placement and Support Service is funded through the Department of Health and Human Services under the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP).
